Prepare your South Africa–Zambia import
We receive import-clearing enquiries from Zambian customers buying goods from South African suppliers. The first step is to identify what is being purchased, where the cargo will enter Zambia and whether the supplier or purchaser is arranging transport.
The final destination in Zambia does not tell us which border station the transporter will use. Your carrier should confirm the route.

Check the commercial records before dispatch
Ask for an accurate invoice listing supplier and purchaser, goods, quantities, values and currency. For mixed goods, request an itemised list rather than a single vague description. A packing list and transport document may also be relevant.
If equipment is used or technically complex, add make, model, condition, function and any product literature available.
Customs classification, value and origin
Buying goods in South Africa does not necessarily mean they were manufactured there or qualify for a particular preferential origin claim. Customs duty treatment depends on applicable classification, valuation and origin rules.
Keep invoices, freight costs and any relevant origin records. Do not rely on a supplier’s verbal estimate as a final Zambian customs assessment.
Routes and customs stations
Depending on the carrier and wider journey, road freight may approach Zambia through different southern trade corridors. Confirm the actual entry point, vehicle or shipment details and onward destination.
If your goods are coming through Chirundu or Kazungula, read the appropriate route guide.
Start your clearing enquiry
Send the description of goods, supplier country, invoice, mode of transport and intended entry station. If the shipment has already left the supplier, tell us its present status and available transport documents.
We can discuss the customs-clearing preparation relevant to the shipment. Request an import-clearing quotation.
