Customs Clearing at Kasumbalesa Border, Zambia

Customs clearing enquiries for Kasumbalesa

Kasumbalesa is a significant Zambia–DRC border corridor. For shipments on this route, we recommend documenting the goods, the exact direction of trade and the planned handover or destination clearly.

Planning a customs-clearing enquiry for Kasumbalesa

Kasumbalesa serves an important Zambia–DRC trading corridor. Share whether the goods are arriving from or heading towards the DRC, which entity is importing or exporting, the route and the precise cargo description.

For industrial parts and supplies, identify the end receiver and match stock descriptions on the invoice to the physical packing. Business descriptions such as “spares” alone may not provide enough information for classification and document checks.

How to plan shipments involving Kasumbalesa

Commercial consignments may include machinery, parts, business inputs or mixed stock. Provide itemised invoices, quantities and transport details so the shipment can be described accurately rather than treated as a generic truckload.

Documents and shipment information to prepare

Where goods are merely passing through Zambia to another destination, the applicable transit requirements are different from ordinary import clearance. Tell us this at the start and identify which borders the load is expected to cross.

Import clearing and export clearing are different

For an import, describe the supplier country, actual entry station and intended Zambian destination. For an export, identify the goods, buyer country, intended exit station and any relevant product approvals. An international transit movement may require a different customs procedure from both.

We start with these distinctions because the correct declaration and supporting records depend on what your shipment is actually doing.

Customs charges and clearing quotations

Government duties and taxes are assessed according to applicable rules, including goods classification, value and other relevant factors. Our agency service quotation is a separate commercial discussion.

To request a useful quote, share product descriptions, invoice details, the chosen route and current shipment status. We cannot responsibly present a universal fee for every consignment.

Kasumbalesa clearing: what happens next

We begin with the invoice, description of the goods, transport details and intended customs route. If a document is missing, tell us what you have and what your supplier or transporter has still to provide. We will discuss the enquiry and the information needed to prepare a quotation.

A border location or city name on its own is not enough to determine the customs treatment. Goods classification, value, permits where applicable and the procedure requested all need consideration.
